Nutrition & Wellbeing Services
Remote and In Person Consultations
Our Approach
Our Nutritional Therapy and Functional Testing services are delivered exclusively by BANT-registered, CNHC-accredited practitioners and Functional Medicine Practitioners, ensuring a high standard of clinical, evidence-based care. We take a comprehensive, personalised approach that looks beyond symptoms to understand how your diet, lifestyle and environment are working together. This includes exploring food choices, eating patterns, digestion, stress load, sleep quality, movement habits, metabolic function, hormonal balance, and the impact of daily routines on overall well-being. By assessing these interconnected factors, we can identify what may be driving or sustaining health concerns, particularly those that have developed gradually or persisted over time.
Where helpful, we use functional testing, including saliva, blood, urine and stool assessments, to gain deeper insight into areas such as gut health, nutrient sufficiency, inflammation, detoxification, hormone patterns, stress response and metabolic health. These tests help clarify what is happening internally at a biochemical level. Although each represents a moment in time, they offer practical guidance around the direction, intensity and duration of any protocol, allowing us to tailor recommendations with greater precision and confidence.
This integrated approach is especially beneficial for longer-term chronic conditions, where a broader, systems-focused understanding is needed to support meaningful change. By combining personalised nutrition, lifestyle interventions and targeted testing where appropriate, we aim to ease persistent symptoms, restore balance in underlying physiological systems, and strengthen long-term health and resilience. Our work is designed to complement conventional medical care, offering thorough assessment, clear interpretation of findings, and structured, real-world guidance that supports sustainable improvement rather than quick fixes.
Supplements may be recommended when clinically relevant to optimise specific pathways or to correct identified deficiencies. All suggestions are tailored to your individual needs, evidence-based, and reviewed within the context of your wider plan.

FAQs
What is Functional Testing?
Functional testing from a nutrition and functional medicine standpoint involves assessing how different areas of the body are functioning to identify imbalances and sub-optimal function. This type of testing is used to investigate the root cause of symptoms and to restore normal function by using a combination of nutrition, targeted supplements, and lifestyle changes. Functional tests may use blood, stool, saliva, or urine to identify body systems in need of support.
Functional testing is different from conventional medical pathology lab testing, which is usually employed to diagnose disease. Functional testing is usually not diagnostic and is focused on identifying imbalances. Functional medicine practitioners use functional labs alongside client history and symptom review to evaluate body system imbalances holistically.
What is Nutritional Therapy and is it right for me?
Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Nutritional Therapists assess and identify nutritional and lifestyle imbalances to understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. Nutritional Therapy is best suited for individuals looking to optimise their health and wellbeing through food and positive lifestyle modification. If you are facing non-urgent challenges relating to digestion, energy, skin, hormones, or immune functionality, nutritional therapy may deliver support in these areas. Nutritional Therapy is not a substitute for primary medical care. Nutritional Therapists work in partnership with medical doctors and other primary care practitioners to deliver a safe, professional and comprehensive health and wellbeing protocol.
What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine is an approach to nutrition that addresses the underlying causes of disease using a systems-based, individualised approach, which engages both client and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. For example, if you have IBS, Functional Medicine would delve into why you have that condition in the first place, as opposed to treating it with medicine. It helps us to understand the whole story of the client which means we are able to recommend a highly personalised approach relating to nutrition, exercise, supplementation and social connection. It is science-based approach, meaning it is focussed on implementing strategies that have been researched and based on published literature. It takes between two and six years to become a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner. There are around 1,500 Certified Functional Medicine Practitioners (IFMCP) worldwide and approximately 150 in the UK. Charlotte Harbour is 1 of 30 Nutritionists in the UK with IFMCP certification.
